Dr. Gordon Barfield

Dr. Barfield attended Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia attaining the B.S. degree, with concentrations in biology and chemistry. He earned the Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree with highest honors from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, including being named the William Kramer award recipient. After his dental training, he entered active service in the United States Air Force and attended the Comprehensive General Dentistry residency at USAF Strategic Hospital Barksdale. After completion of the active service tour, he entered the group private practice of family dentistry in his hometown of Salem, Virginia where he practiced comprehensive dentistry for over fifteen years. He returned to academic training and completed the certification and residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Nevada. While practicing orthodontics in Atlanta for the last 12 years, Dr. Barfield developed the “Duo Aligners” customized clear aligner appliance system. The system has been used to successfully treat thousands of orthodontic patients from the ages of 8 to 80 with a host of orthodontic needs. An avid supporter of technology, Dr. Barfield has been an early adopter of the most transformative innovations in dentistry. Dr. Barfield has owned and operated solo and group dental and orthodontic practices throughout his career, and most recently practiced with his wife, Dr. Maria Lewis. He has recently exited the ownership role with the sale of his practices but maintains his passion for assisting people from all walks of life attain dental health through technology, education, and advocacy. He is a member of The American Dental Association, The American Association of Orthodontists, University of North Carolina Dentistry lifetime member, Georgia Dental Association, Georgia Association of Orthodontists, The Hinman Society, Fifth District Dental Society, and the Smiles Change Lives Foundation.
