Predictability in Clear Aligner Treatments: consultation to retention

Many purveyors of clear aligner therapy have a limited understanding of the aggregation of variables that can influence the predictability of each treatment. When expectations are not entirely met, this can often lead to disappointment and frustration for both the provider and patient. This course examines the elements of predictability from initial consultation, data collection, aligner manufacture, treatment planning, compliance and retention.

Course objectives

Upon completion, participants will comprehend-

  • The influence of the basic orthodontic paradigms in clear aligner therapy (force, space and time)

  • Recognition of the unpredictable elements in clear aligner therapy

  • Variables in collecting data in clear aligner therapy

  • Variables in patient cohorts and influence upon compliance

  • Variables in clear aligner materials and the manufacturing process in clear aligner therapy

  • Variables in clear aligner software

  • Variables in clinician experience and expectation

  • Variations in intimacy and need for symmetrical movement

  • Rapid recapture in minor relapse
